Uptown is the largest business district in the Carolinas, with Bank of America, Duke Energy and Honeywell headquartered among the Tryon Street towers and Ally Charlotte Center holding about 2,100 employees. The office map keeps shifting: Duke Energy plans to shrink its footprint from 2.5 million square feet to 1 million by 2050, and new towers keep pulling tenants from older ones. Every consolidation means moves, buildouts, deep cleans and janitorial contracts put back out to bid, usually by facility managers who answer email during business hours.
The residential side is bigger than many owners expect. Third Ward counts about 4,397 residential units and Fourth Ward about 4,844, and Gateway Village adds more than 500. Second Ward holds roughly half of Uptown's hotel rooms, and the convention center draws over 500,000 people a year. Service work here is vertical: a leak in one condo can reach the unit below, every job needs elevator or dock time, and parking takes planning. The company that settles those logistics at intake earns the repeat call from the building.
